Coto de Caza

With a population of approximately 14,000, Coto de Caza is a rural community that is made up of approximately 4000 homes. Coto de Caza is considered one of Orange County’s most famous, and oldest, planned communities.

Coto de Caza is a guard gated private community that rests in the Trabuco Canyon area. The community originated in 1970, and even then it was seen as a hunting lodge, not one of California’s most prestigiously planned communities.

There are still several undeveloped lots within Coto de Caza. The community also offers two 18-hole golf courses, one considered the old club and the other considered the new club. Coto de Caza also contains a store (The Coto de Caza General Store) and a school (Merry Hill School.)

The residents of Coto de Caza shop at nearby Rancho Santa Margarita or Mission Viejo, both just minutes away. Students in the area are served by the Capistrano Unified School District, which therein sends them to Wagonwheel, Tesoro, and Las Flores High Schools.

Coto de Caza is mainly known as a middle to upper class community. The majority of the community is tract and semi-custom homes, with a sprinkle of townhomes and condos. The community offers great value in that large homes with a great deal of land can be purchased within Coto de Caza limits for less money than the coastal areas.
